Former Premier League manager aims thinly-veiled dig at Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper

Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw at home in the visit of Millwall in the Championship.

Head coach Steve Cooper was in charge for the first time at the City Ground since being appointed.

The Reds secured their first league point at home following previous defeats in home soil.

Millwall striker, Matt Smith netted the first for the visitors before Max Lowe equalised.

"It was tough," Cooper said during his post-match interview. "It was a goal we planned not to concede because we know that's their threat, we know they've got Matt Smith who can win balls in the air and in the box.

"We knew that was coming and when you plan for something, you obviously want to do better.

"We wanna be winning these games at home, going forward of course and I'm confident that will happen."

The Welsh boss also praised the home support as over 25,500 fans were present.

"Amazing attendance, amazing atmosphere. Obviously, the supporters really want to get behind the team and we've got to make sure we do our bit on the pitch so they can do that.

During the EFL highlights on Quest, former footballer, manager and pundit Ian Holloway aimed his comments at the Reds' manager.

"Good luck to him, that's all I'm saying," Holloway said after a long pause.

"There is something wrong there, I think Chris Hughton has been a fantastic manager, they have gone through a lot of money and paid a lot of money to certain players and not sorted it out.

"For me, Steve's had two seasons with a ex-Premier League team with their parachute payments and he left the minute their striker who is on about 70 grand a week (Ayew) left.

"He's on trial now. He's picked up this club, they're in a terrible position, good luck to him."
