Former Premier League defender gives lowdown on Vitor Pereira amid Everton manager links

Former Premier League defender Jose Fonte believes Vitor Pereira would be a “valuable option” as Everton’s new manager.

The Portuguese has emerged as one of the favourites to take on the vacant role at Goodison Park, following the sacking of Marco Silva on Thursday.

Reports in Portugal have suggested that Pereira was offered to Everton’s board by an agent, with the 51-year-old looking likely to leave Shanghai SIPG regardless of the Blues’ decision.

Speaking to talkSport, former West Ham United and Southampton defender Fonte believes his fellow countryman could be a good fit for the Blues.

“Vitor has done a good job back in Portugal with Porto,” Fonte said.

“He went to Turkey, he did okay, went to China, won the championship, and has done a fantastic job with Shanghai.

“I know he’s one of the new generation of managers, he’s very methodical, the players like him, that’s the information I have, he gives good training sessions, he has a good understanding of the game.

“I think he’s a very valuable option, and I’m not surprised that he’s being mentioned.”
