Former Portsmouth youngster Seok Jae Lee set for trial with Sunderland U23's

Former Portsmouth youngster Seok Jae Lee is set to go on trial with Sunderland U23's this summer, according to reports.

According to The News, Portsmouth, the attacking midfielder will head to Wearside in an attempt to earn a deal with the Black Cats, despite being offered a deal to remain at Fratton Park.

The youngster came through the ranks at Pompey and made two first-team appearances from the bench in the Papa John's Trophy last season.

It’s understood the attacking midfielder will link up with the Black Cats' under-23s in pre-season as he bids to win a deal.

Lee came through the youth ranks at Fratton Park and made two first-team appearances off the bench in the Papa John's Trophy in the 2020-21 campaign.

The South Korean-born teenager was one of two players to be offered a new contract amid an academy player overhaul this summer.

Alongside Harrison Brook, the youngster was offered a third-year scholarship but both decided to turn down the deals and leave Fratton Park.

Lee recently had a trial on loan with the recently promoted Brentford, but it was unsuccessful.

His arrival on Wearside this summer would coincide with the new ethos promoted by new owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus - investing in the youth set-up.

However, if the 17-year-old does enough to earn a contract at the Stadium of Light, Portsmouth will be owed a compensation fee.
