Former Pollokshaws pub and police station earmarked for 35 flats

A site formerly occupied by a pub and police station in Pollokshaws has been earmarked for flats.

Wheatley Group is looking to build on the land that used to be home to Becketts Pub and Pollokshaws police station, which is currently being demolished.

Plans have been submitted for 35 flats for mid-market rent on Shawbridge Street. The four-storey building would have 21 two-bedroom, 12 one-bedroom and two wheelchair suitable one-bedroom flats.

The U-shaped block would have a rear landscaped courtyard with amenity space and rain garden.

Developers say that the design is "appropriately set within the diverse context of a historic church, mature trees, a recently completed nearby flatted development and a much more substantial housing development which is about to undergo construction on the other side of Shawbridge Street".

It adds: “Furthermore, scale, choice of materials and the character of the building were to be carefully considered in achieving a unique yet respectful identity which also contributes to a sense of place as it addresses and interrelates with existing contextual elements, be they existing buildings, recently proposed buildings, or indeed substantial open spaces or mature trees, and as it partly encloses its own rear landscaped courtyard.”

The plans are due to go before Glasgow City Council.
