Former police officers are among the volunteers who have stepped up to help as a tip reopened yesterday (May 27).
Keynsham Recycling Centre reopened at 8am on Wednesday morning for residents who live in the Bath and North East Somerset area.
There were thought to be around 150 cars waiting in the queues, which were around quarter-of-a-mile in length.
The queue was described by people waiting as "neatly organized" and "busy, but well managed."
Team Rubicon, made up primarily of ex-service men and women, is overseeing the queues and has said ex-police are among their volunteers in the Bristol area.
A spokeswoman said: "We have the Keynsham tasking underway and also have some incredible individuals from the Bristol area who are volunteering across the UK.
"An example of this is former Avon and Somerset Police Officer Nick Hoon, who has gone above and beyond on our operation (Op Re:Act) and done an outstanding job for the NHS as a volunteer."
The recycling centre itself has a large catchment area, with people from as far as Midsomer Norton to Bath being able to use the facility.
On Bath and North East Somerset Council' s website, the authority reminds people that the Keynsham tip is only be open for 'essential visits' to Bath and North East Somerset residents.
Checks are being done on motorists for proof of addess.
And a number plate system similar to that used by Bristol City Council is being used to manage the number of people attending.
