Former PM Tony Blair compares potential US and UK trade deal to Newcastle taking on Man City

Former PM Tony Blair has compared the negotiations between the USA and the UK over a potential trade deal to Newcastle United taking on Manchester City - calling it an 'unequal match'.

The Newcastle United fan was making a speech on Brexit when he began discussing the potential agreement between America and the UK - something US President Donald Trump has promised will be 'fantastic and big.'

Blair initially referenced any talks between the two countries, as like 'Man City playing Port Vale', remarking it was an 'unequal match' before quickly swapping Port Vale to Newcastle.

'Maybe not Port Vale, maybe Newcastle,' he corrected himself according to ITV's Paul Brand.

However football fans, and those with a keen eye on politics were quick to point out that Newcastle beat Man City last season, and remain the only side in the Premier League to do so in 2019.

That game took place on January 29 2019, with Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie grabbing the goals in a 2-1 victory at St James' Park.
