Former players open up on Manchester United career as Cristiano Ronaldo criticised for club desire

Welcome to our Manchester Evening News Manchester United media watch piece. Maybe not the first, we've definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it's not that new at all. Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.

Ronaldo criticised for Juventus departure

Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from Italian giants Juventus appeared to happen in a speedy fashion, but according to former Juventus players Alessio Tacchinardi and Sergio Brio, the move was a bit too quick.

Brio declared; "For the love of God, Cristiano is still a great player and a great professional, but his farewell could have been given in a different way and in other words. Juventus deserved more respect, I didn't expect Ronaldo to make such a slight to the club,"

Tacchinardi added; "The fact he left and said he would go to a place where he felt at home hasn't given him a good image.”

Now from a Juventus perspective, there may be an argument to say Ronaldo could have handled the situation better, but from a United standpoint, it shows the eagerness to rejoin the club where he won the first of his five Champions League medals.

The contrast in views will never align, but United fans will be satisfied with the way in which Ronaldo expressed his desire to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s project by referring to the club as ‘home’ and will certainly excite United fans ahead of his potential second debut against Newcastle United after the international break.

Ex-United players reminisce over the glory days

The famous pair of twins who played for United; Rafael and Fabio da Silva reflected on their time at Manchester United and revealed who had the biggest influence on their respective careers with the names they stated still being heavily associated with United.

The twins spoke with Sportsmail and discussed the player who helped them the most:

Rafael said; “He did extraordinary things and we gained our own confidence from that”

“He is my hero, the best. He helped me a lot... Of course, his talent is something I’ve never seen in my life. I love him because he set a very big example for young boys like us. That is what he will do for the players this second time” added Fabio.

Any idea on who they were referring to? Of course, none other than United's latest signing- Cristiano Ronaldo. The comments give a direct insight into the type of influence Ronaldo will have on the likes of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

“The things I took from Cristiano are for life. The players who are about to play with him now at United should be thankful every day.” stated Fabio.

Furthermore, both players named Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher as considerable influences during their time at the club which will be music to the ears of all Manchester United fans.

Fletcher, who is the technical director, and Carrick, who is a first-team coach, both have a huge impact on the current United players and by the twins’ judgement, they are both figures who will benefit the club greatly in their current roles.
