Former petrol station in St Pauls could be replaced with apartment block

A former petrol station in St Pauls, which closed 17 years ago, will be replaced with a 31-apartment block, under plans unveiled.

A planning application was put in for the demolition of the petrol station, Sui Generis, in 2003, as well as the building of 15 homes, which was granted by Bristol City Council, but the plans for the 15 homes never went ahead.

Now, a new proposal for 31 apartments split across three blocks for the boarded-up has emerged.

Block A would consist of seven affordable units including one and two bed flats. Block B and C consists of 24 units which are either one or two bed flats.

The planning application from CSJ Planning Consultants Ltd can be viewed by visiting the Bristol City Council Planning Portal.

It is not yet clear when the apartments will be ready or how much the flats will cost. Bristol Live asked CSJ Planning Consultants Ltd for a statement, but have not yet received a response.

The plans also include a new vehicle access point on Lower Ashley Road with associated car and cycle parking. The site is also located close to the bus route on Sussex Place/Ashley Road and there will be a number of 13 parking spaces provided.

CSJ Planning Consultants Ltd will provide residents with a Travel Welcome Pack which will include public transport and cycle route information, information on the local Car Club scheme and contact details, the health benefits of walking and cycling and travel vouchers to the value of £500.

The planning application states: “A modern expression was deemed appropriate for the site and context. Removal of site trees was also considered appropriate given the site constraints and ability to utilise front and rear garden areas to provide green elements of the proposal.”

There have been several applications put in for the site over the years, including one in 2006 by Dominion House Group Ltd for apartments, including 24 one bedroom and 10 two bedroom apartments with amenity space and storage and three four bedroom affordable dwellings with gardens.

The planning group was granted permission, but they never went ahead with the plans.
