The one thing you should never ask when you go to Penneys

Most Dubs love a trip to Penneys, whether it's the modern shop in Dundrum or the old favourite on O'Connell street.

When the country reopened after lockdown, the queues outside the stores were incredible, with people lining up from 7am.

Over the years, former employees have shared what it's really like to work at Penneys, giving customers an insight on how to get discounts and even the best times to visit.

But there’s one piece of information that ex-employee George Allen decided to share that will definitely help you next time you visit.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph , he explained the one thing you should never ask a Penneys employee - and it might just help you stay in their good books.

Workers dread having to look for something in the stockroom, so definitely steer clear of asking them to make a visit.

George said the chances of staff actually finding an item a customer has asked for in the stockroom is very unlikely.

He said: "Sometimes, especially if you were working on the shop floor, customers would ask you if you had an item of clothing in a different size – and we would dutifully go and check the stockroom.

"The thing is … none of us really knew where anything was.

“It’s a massive room filled with cardboard boxes and it’s basically a lucky dip. In the six months I worked there, I found one item successfully, which was actually quite a proud day."

He also offered up some tips for how to get some money off items when you arrive at the till.

He said: "If you want a customer discount, it’s very easy. If you want an employee discount, you have to wait until Christmas and even then you only get 10%.

"For customers, an item with any kind of slight fault or mark gets 10% knocked off if they ask for it, as I saw many times on the tills.
