Ty Law is frustrated, and New England’s defense is the reason why.
The former Patriots — and Jets — cornerback ripped into his former employer in a recent appearance on WEEI. Law specifically targeted the Pats defense following a 35-29 loss to the Cowboys.
“I’m really upset about what’s going on,” Law said. “Because you don’t let people come in there and walk all over you, throw the ball like that anytime they want to. I mean, that’s shameful.”
Law’s comments came after Cowboys QB Dak Prescott threw for 445 passing yards, the most ever against a Bill Belichick defense in a single game. Dallas punted just once in Week 6 and finished with a field goal attempt or a touchdown on its final five drives.
The Patriots offense also struggled in the game’s closing minutes — Mac Jones threw a pick-six — but Law had his sights locked on the defense.
“Defense, they have to step up,” Law said. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen in this offseason. I can tell you right now, if I had a vote, we’d be going first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth round (of the draft) — we’re getting all defensive guys and we’re gonna get some wide receivers and running backs in free agency because something’s got to give with the defense.”
Law’s comments come with his two former teams about to face off. The Patriots host the Jets in Week 7. New England handily beat New York in Week 2, winning 25-6 while picking Zach Wilson off four times. Surely that defensive performance was more to Law’s liking.
Law spent the first decade of his NFL career with New England, where he was a two-time first-team All-Pro. He was a Pro Bowler with the Jets in 2005 and returned to the organization in 2008 after two seasons in Kansas City.
Law spent the final year of his career, 2009, in Denver.
