Former Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis to sign with Chargers

The run in Carolina is officially over for Thomas Davis as he has found himself a new team. Davis announced on Twitter that he has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers. It will become official Wednesday when the new league year begins.

Davis has been part of the Panthers organization since being their first pick of the 2005 NFL draft, playing in 176 games and compiling 1,111 total tackles. The team had made it known after the season that Davis would not be back, as the linebacker took to Twitter to thank the fans for their support over the years.

Davis showed he still has enough left in the tank and joins a strong defense in Los Angeles, getting a chance to play behind a stout defensive line that includes Nick Bosa. He’ll also line up in front of stud safety Derwin James.

No matter how things go for Davis as his career winds down in L.A., he’s a likely Hall of Famer and will always be a franchise favorite in Charlotte.
