Former Pakistan army chief Bajwa 'wanted me dead': Imran Khan

LAHORE: It seems Imran Khan is in no mood to forget his bitterness against former Pakistan army chief General(retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa. Firing a fresh salvo in the new year, Imran Khan, the former Pakistan PM, has accused ex-army chief General(retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa of trying to get him killed and impose a state of emergency in the country

Khan made these allegations during an interview, which is yet to be aired, with the private Bol News channel in Lahore. According to the report, Khan, claimed that Bajwa "wanted me dead".

Khan, who is the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, has had a strained relationship with Bajwa since Khan was removed from power in April. The cricketer-turned-politician was removed from power in a no-confidence vote in Parliament. Imran Khan holds the dubious distinction of being the only Pakistan PM to be ousted from the office through a no-confidence vote in Parliament.

Khan was shot in the leg on November 3 by two gunmen while participating in a long march to demand snap elections. Khan claimed in the interview that many people had told him to stop making accusations against Bajwa, but he could not ignore "the crimes that Gen Bajwa had committed."

Last month, Khan accused Bajwa of playing a "double game" against his government and said that he committed a "big mistake" by extending the tenure of then military chief in 2019.

Khan has previously accused Bajwa of being responsible for his failures as prime minister and alleged that Bajwa was involved in a US conspiracy to overthrow his government. Bajwa retired on November 29, 2019, after being granted a three-year extension by Khan. The Pakistani army has traditionally held significant influence in the country's security and foreign policy.
