Oct. 20--Former San Diego Padres closer Trevor Hoffman has sold a plot of land in Rancho Santa Fe for $2.5 million.
Set within The Bridges, a guard-gated resort community, the nearly three-acre parcel is surrounded by 280-degree views of canyons, citrus groves and the fairways of the nearby Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course.
Listed for sale last year at $2.699 million, the property is pre-approved for a building site of 25,600 square feet, with the possibility of an additional 9,400 square feet of space, according to the listing details.
Hoffman, who owns other property in the Southland, bought the land in 2007 for $3.1 million, public records show.

Hoffman, seven times an all-star, was among baseball's most dominant closers in the '90s and 2000s, leading the league twice in saves (1998, 2006). The 48-year-old's 601 career saves rank second all-time, trailing only Mariano Rivera (652).
He is currently a senior advisor for baseball operations for the Padres, a role that includes pitching instruction for the club's minor league affiliates.
