Former Packers WR coach Alvis Whitted hired by Wisconsin Badgers

Alvis Whitted is staying in the state of Wisconsin.

The former Green Bay Packers receivers coach was officially hired Wednesday to do the same job by Paul Chryst and the Wisconsin Badgers football team.

Matt LaFleur picked Whitted, a former NFL receiver and an accomplished receivers coach for Colorado State, to be his first receivers coach in Green Bay. The partnership lasted only one year, with LaFleur letting Whitted go after a disappointing overall season by Packers receivers in 2019.

Whitted will take over a position group at Wisconsin that includes Danny Davis, Kendric Pryor, Jack Dunn and Adam Krumholz, among others.

“We’re excited to add Alvis to our staff,” Chryst said in a press release. “What he’s done as a coach and his experience as a player obviously stood out, but as we went through the process and got to know more about him and who he is, the more impressed we were. It became clear that he made a big impact on the coaches and players he’s been around, and I’m excited for him to have the opportunity to help our players continue to grow.”

Whitted coached Pro Bowler Davante Adams and helped Allen Lazard produce a breakout season with the Packers. At Colorado State, Whitted coached future NFL receivers Rashad Higgins, Michael Gallup and Preston Williams.

The Packers have still not hired a receivers coach to replace Whitted.
