Former Packers S Kentrell Brice signing with Buccaneers

Former Green Bay Packers safety Kentrell Brice has found a new home. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the signing of Brice to a one-year deal Monday.

Brice, 25, received interest from both the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts after the Packers declined to offer him a restricted tender last week, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The former Lousiana Tech star signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He played in 36 games and made 14 starts, including 10 last season.

Brice will depart Green Bay after tallying 99 tackles, six pass breakups and one interception in three seasons.

The Packers moved on despite interest from Brice in a return. He struggled through much of last season, both in terms of staying healthy and consistently producing on the field. He battled through a lingering ankle injury and was a liability both in coverage and as a tackler, a difficult combination for a safety.

According to Pro Football Focus, Brice allowed a passer rating of 150.1 on 29 throws into his primary coverage and missed 12 of 57 tackle attempts last season. In terms of overall grade, he ranked 87th out of 93 qualifying safeties in the NFL.

The Packers no longer have either starting safety from last season on the roster. Brice is starting over in Tampa Bay, while Ha Ha Clinton-Dix landed in Chicago after last season’s trade to Washington.
