Former Packers RB Ty Montgomery lands 1-year deal with Jets

Former Green Bay Packers receiver and running back Ty Montgomery landed a one-year deal with the New York Jets, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Signing Montgomery gives the Jets a versatile backup to Le’Veon Bell, who signed a four-year deal worth $52 million in New York last month.

Montgomery spent his first three and a half seasons with the Packers. He transitioned from playing receiver in his first year to running back in 2016, starting 11 games at the new position between 2016 and 2017.

The Packers traded Montgomery to the Baltimore Ravens after he fumbled a kickoff late in Green Bay’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams in October of last year. He rushed 15 times for 83 yards and caught 10 passes for 65 yards in six games with the Ravens to finish 2018.

In his first four NFL seasons, Montgomery has 192 rushes for 932 yards and seven touchdowns and 107 catches for 892 yards and three more scores.

Montgomery formally thanked the Packers and their fans in a goodbye post Thursday:

The Packers drafted Montgomery in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft. GM Brian Gutekunst received a seventh-round pick in the 2020 draft from the Ravens in return for Montgomery.
