Former Packers first-round pick Datone Jones finds another new home

Former Green Bay Packers first-round pick Datone Jones has found another new home, agreeing to a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to agent David Canter of DEC Management.

Jones, who the Packers made the 26th overall pick in the 2013 draft, will be playing for his fifth different team since leaving Green Bay following the 2016 season.

Jones previously signed deals with the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. He only appeared in eight total games with the five teams.

Jones failed to live up to his first-round draft status with the Packers despite playing in 59 games over four seasons. His 3.5 sacks recorded as a rookie remain a career high. He bounced around between the defensive line and outside linebacker and struggled to find consistent playing time.

The Packers never seriously considered bringing him back after his rookie contract expired following the 2016 season. The team declined to pick up his fifth-year option and he eventually signed with the Vikings in free agency.

Over six NFL seasons, Jones has tallied 88 tackles, 10 sacks and eight pass breakups.
