Former Packers FB John Kuhn officially retiring from NFL

Three-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro and long-time fan favorite John Kuhn is retiring from the NFL as a member of the Green Bay Packers.

The team announced Wednesday it is Kuhn’s desire to retire from the game with the Packers, the franchise he played nine seasons for during his decorated NFL career.

Kuhn will officially announce the decision at Lambeau Field on Thursday.

Kuhn, an undrafted free agent from tiny Shippensburg University, quickly became a folk hero in Green Bay as a tough, do-it-all fullback. He went on to play in 154 total games with the Packers, scoring 30 total touchdowns and winning a Super Bowl between 2007 and 2015.

He made three Pro Bowl teams (2011, 2014-15) and two All-Pro teams (2011, 2014) while with the Packers. More importantly, he was beloved by everyone in Green Bay, from his teammates to the organization and the fans.

“John was a terrific football player and tremendous teammate who contributed to many years of success for the Packers,” Gutekunst said. “He was a true professional whose work ethic and leadership set a great example both on the field and in the locker room. We want to thank John and his family for all they did for the Packers and in the community as well as wish them nothing but the best.”

Kuhn played two seasons with the New Orleans Saints after departing Green Bay in 2015 but was out of football in 2018.

Kuhn will be made available to the media on Thursday at Lambeau Field. His press conference will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT.
