Former Packers create defensive TD for AAF’s Commanders

A pair of former Green Bay Packers created a defensive touchdown for the San Antonio Commanders during Sunday’s matchup in the AAF.

Jayrone Elliott came screaming off the edge and stripped quarterback Garrett Gilbert, creating the fumble Joey Mbu scooped and scored from eight yards out in the third quarter.

Here’s the play:

The defensive score extended San Antonio’s lead in the second half.

Elliott played three seasons with the Packers, tallying four sacks, seven tackles for losses and eight quarterback hits over 38 games. He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys before the 2017 season. The former undrafted free agent has been one of the standout players in the AAF through two weeks.

Mbu signed with the Packers last June but didn’t make the initial 53-man roster to start the 2018 season despite a strong summer.

Former Packers draft pick Charles Johnson is also enjoying a nice afternoon, catching two first-half touchdown passes from Gilbert. He was a seventh-round pick in 2013 but never played in Green Bay.
