Former Packers combine to create INT for Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV

A pair of former Green Bay Packers combined to create an interception of Jimmy Garoppolo in the first half of Super Bowl LIV.

Former Packers defensive lineman Mike Pennel shook loose and delivered a hit in the pocket on Garoppolo, and the quarterback’s wobbly pass to the sideline was easily intercepted by former Packers cornerback Bashaud Breeland.

The takeaway came early in the second quarter with the Chiefs lead the 49ers, 7-3. The Chiefs turned the interception into a short field goal to take a 10-3 lead.

Pennel was signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He played three seasons in Green Bay before being released in 2017.

Breeland played just one season in Green Bay. He intercepted a pair of passes over just seven games with the Packers in 2018.
