Former Packers assistant Ron Zook hired by Stallions of AAF

Former Green Bay Packers special teams coordinator Ron Zook has landed a job in the American Alliance of Football.

The Salt Lake Stallions announced the addition of Zook to Dennis Erickson’s coaching staff Thursday.

Zook will assist the secondary and special teams for the Stallions, who are 1-2 and preparing to play the undefeated Orlando Apollos this weekend.

Zook had been out of coaching for the last month. Stallions GM Randy Mueller reached out with an offer earlier this week, and Zook gladly accepted.

New coach Matt LaFleur and the Packers decided to move on from Zook, who was the special teams coordinator in Green Bay during each of the last three seasons. The Packers plummetted to last in the NFL in Rick Gosselin’s annual special teams rankings in 2018, spurring the change.

The Stallions have several former Packers on the roster, including linebacker Greer Martini, running back Joel Bouagnon, receiver Adonis Jennings and defensive end Chris Odom.

Zook’s job should be simplified in the AAF, where there are no kickoffs or extra point attempts.
