Former Ospreys and Wales U20s Grand Slam player signs for Welsh region

Former Wales U20s Grand Slam winner Joe Thomas has signed a short-term deal with the Dragons.

The centre has been on trial at the east Wales region and has now been taken on as a fully-fledged part of their squad.

He has penned a contract that will see him stay at Rodney Parade until the end of the season at least.

It’s an opportunity for Thomas to reignite his career.

The Morriston RFC product was part of the Wales U20s team that won a Grand Slam in 2016, featuring against Italy when the silverware was lifted.

He went on to play for the Ospreys before being squeezed from their set-up amid cuts to the region’s budget. A spell in New Zealand followed, playing club rugby for Otorohanga, before Thomas headed for Leicester Tigers.

Now the 24-year-old has resurfaced at the Dragons, doing enough to earn himself a deal.

Talented and not afraid to defend, he was once billed as ' one to watch '. He will hope to show he deserves to stick around with the east Wales region beyond this season.
