Singer Liam Payne has said he has had a “wild few years," after his One Direction days. The star, who is set to release his debut album LP1 this Friday, revealed to television presenter Maya Jama that a lot of “different emotions” went into the production of the record.

Speaking at a Hugo event in London, he told Jama, “As I’ve been writing it over two years, there’s been a lot of different emotions that [went into it]. I even had a baby in the space of time that I was doing it.”

Payne shares two-year-old son Bear Payne with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl, who he dated for two and a half years before announcing their separation in July 2018. He said, “It’s been a wild few years for me, so hopefully that’s in the record - so you get to know me a little bit more so than in the singles we’ve released.”

Payne will be the fourth member of One Direction to release a solo album, following in the footsteps of his former bandmates Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Niall Horan.

He spoke to Jama on Wednesday night at an event held at Flannels’ Oxford Street flagship to celebrate the launch of Payne’s collaboration with Hugo on a range of bodywear. He also features in a brand campaign, which sees the star get “fully starkers” in his very first nude shoot alongside model Stella Maxwell.

Calling it a “weird dream," he revealed that he trained fiercely to reach peak physical condition - although he said, “The whole time I was just thinking, ‘I’m not sure what my mum would think of this.’”

The Hugo x Liam Payne collection is available now.
