Former Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snyder wins Yasar Dogu Invitational

Captain America just keeps on making us all proud.

In case you did’t know, former Ohio State All-American wrestler Kyle Snyder was in another international competition this week. And in case you didn’t know, he stonewalled the competition again, taking home the 97 kg. gold medal in the Yasar Dogu Invitational in Istanbul, Turkey while wrestling for Team USA.

It’s been an amazing run for Snyder. At Ohio State, he won three NCAA titles, but that’s just the start of all he’s accomplished. On the world stage, he has three world championships to go along with an Olympic gold medal. And he’s still just 23 years old.

Snyder’s run to the final match was overwhelming with a 13-2 defeat of Baki Sahin of Turkey in the quarterfinals. He then disposed of Hungary’s Pavlo Olyiinik 10-0 to advance to the gold medal match against Khalil Shabanibengar of Iran. That one would be a hard-fought low-scoring affair with Snyder prevailing 2-1 to take home the championship.

We’ll next see Snyder in the much anticipated World Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan from September 14 to September 22, 2019. There he’ll try to avenge his loss in the last World’s to Abdulrashid Sadulaev of Russia.
