Former Ohio State WR Terry McLaurin loses Rookie of the Week to Jags QB Gardner Minshew

Buckeyes’ standout receiver Terry McLaurin was drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. However, this past Sunday, he played like he should’ve been selected 50 picks higher.

McLaurin, in his debut, notched 125 yards on five receptions. He also blew away the defense on a 69-yard touchdown grab. The fifth Buckeye drafted in 2019, McLaurin was electric in his debut.

He exploded as Dwayne Haskins sat on the bench. Haskins was the Redskins first-round pick yet didn’t win the starting job over Case Keenum, although Haskins is expected to eventually be the team’s starter.

Following that performance, McLaurin was nominated to be the NFL’s Rookie of the Week. Well, he may have been nominated, but he wasn’t selected for the honor.

Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew was the winner. Minshew completed 22-of-25 attempts, an 88% completion percentage. That ended percentage is the Jags highest completion in its history.

Minshew ended the game with 275 yards, two touchdowns and a 122.5 passer rating. He was dominant as the Jags lost to the Chiefs in a difficult Week one matchup.

After Denzel Ward, Marshon Lattimore and Ezekiel Elliott won the honors in the past three respective seasons, it’s up to Haskins, Parris Campbell, Nick Bosa and McLaurin to keep that streak alive.
