Former Ohio State standout Michael Thomas on pace for historic NFL season

Michael Thomas is having a historic season for the New Orleans Saints.

Coming out of high school, Thomas was a three-star recruit. Not heavily recruited, Thomas was the 765th best player across America in the Class of 2011. Now, he’s arguably the best one in that class.

After three seasons in Columbus, Thomas was drafted in the second round by New Orleans, and after an All Pro-caliber season, Thomas signed a record-breaking extension this past offseason.

He’s been paying off the Saints’ trust with interest. On pace for 146 receptions, Thomas has been electric through the first half and could beat out Marvin Harrison’s NFL record 143 receptions in a season.

The Saints have been banged up —  most notably, future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees has missed significant time. Alvin Kamara, Jared Cook, Tre’Quan Smith, Keith Kirkwood, and others have been sidelined.

But not Michael Thomas. And his numbers don’t seem to have suffered that much either.

The workhorse has played in all eight games as New Orleans is sitting as the second-best team in the NFC at 7-1. Thomas, who has amassed a league-high in receptions (73) and yards (875), has been virtually unstoppable.

There’s no reason to believe the former Buckeye cannot continue this success as the Saints are set to return off a bye in Week 10.
