Former Ohio State standout Michael Thomas holding out of Saints camp

One of the best receivers in the NFL, Michael Thomas, is holding out of the New Orleans Saints training camp amid contract disputes.

Thomas hasn’t had a breakout contract despite having a couple of breakout seasons with New Orleans. That said, he’s in store for a potentially record-breaking contract.

At age 26, Thomas has been one of the top-5 receivers in the NFL over the past few seasons, securing over 1,400 yards and a league-high 125 receptions last season.

With Odell Beckham Jr.’s recent $90 million contact having been signed in the last few seasons, Thomas should be eyeing something in that ballpark. Seeking $19-$22 million per year seems right up his alley for a player with at least five seasons left in his prime.

While Thomas was out for the team’s first day of training camp and could be holding out even longer, head coach Sean Payton didn’t seem phased by his absence and current disputes.

This doesn’t seem like it will be a long-term issue. That said, hopefully, the Saints come to terms with Thomas and pay him as the top-five receiver he’s proven he is.
