Former Ohio State QB Tate Martell receives NCAA waiver to play immediately at Miami

Former Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell has been granted immediately eligibility per reports. Martell transferred from Ohio State shortly after Justin Fields made the jump to the Buckeyes from Georgia despite several comments about competing for the job.

The news was first broke by Manny Navarro of the Athletic-Miami.

There’s no doubt this comes as welcome news for Miami and Martell who will be looking to turn around a program that’s not quite been able to turn the corner from its glory days.

The news also continues the relaxed approach the NCAA has had on undergraduate transfers and their ability to petition for immediate playing time at their new school despite rules requiring them to sit out a year.
