Former Ohio State offensive lineman Pat Elflein claimed off waivers by Jets

Former Ohio State offensive lineman Pat Elflein may have been down, but he was definitely not out. After being released by the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, it didn’t take long for him to be picked up off waivers, with the suitor being the New York Jets.

The news was first reported by everyone’s favorite NFL insider Ian Rapoport Monday after it appears there were several teams trying to put a claim in to land the services of the former Rimington Trophy winner.

Truth be known, Elflein underperformed expectations in Minnesota and you can’t blame the team for going in another direction. A lot of it had to do with injuries, but either way, he never really cemented himself in the lineup. Sometimes it’s best for both parties, and in this case, Elflein should have a chance to be right in the mix immediately as a starter on a Jets team that has struggled mightily this year (what else is new).

There’s obviously plenty in NFL circles that believe Elflein still has something left in him. According to Rapoport, the Ravens, Bears, Dolphins, Jaguars, and Washington all expressed interest.
