Former Ohio State linebacker Darron Lee traded to Kansas City Chiefs

It a bit of a shocking move, former Ohio State linebacker Darron Lee was traded from the New York Jets Wednesday to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in next year’s 2020 NFL Draft.

These sorts of moves do happen of course, but the fact that the Jets got just a sixth-round draft pick for a guy that has been a solid contributor with the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets is a bit surprising. The result has been an avalanche of  criticism heaped on an organization that has had its fair share of issues in the past.

Adding more gasoline to the fire is the fact that the trade is the first of elevated head coach Adam Gase to interim general manager after the firing of former GM Mike Maccagnan.

It really makes one wonder what happened behind the scenes that may or may not come out in the days, weeks or months to come.

New first broke via Adam Schefter of ESPN but spread quickly.

Shortly after, Darron Lee tweeted out a thank you message to the Jets organization and fans in a high class move.

He then went full out super fan in showing his excitement to be a part of the Chiefs organization.

The Jets drafted Lee with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played in 40 total games — 36 of those as starts. Last year alone he started twelve games and totaled 74 tackles.

The Chiefs have made several key acquisitions on the defensive side of the ball in the offseason, and this is just another one that should boost production on that side of the ball in the 2019-20 season.
