Ohio State lost one of its own (subscription may be required) on Sunday.
Former fullback Fred “Curly” Morrison died Sunday in Murrieta, California from complications from a broken hip suffered six weeks ago. He was 94.
Morrison was a central Ohio native, having grown up in Upper Arlington. He played for two OSU coaches — Paul Bixer in 1946, and Wes Fessler from 1947-49, and was named Rose Bowl MVP in 1950. That year in Pasadena, Morrison rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown, helping the Buckeyes to a 17-14 win over California.
He later went on to play in the NFL for seven seasons with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns. He made a Pro Bowl with the Browns in 1955. Morrison was named to the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
