Former Ohio State football players indicted on rape, kidnapping charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio _ Two former Ohio State University football players have been indicted on felony charges of rape and kidnapping.

A Franklin County grand jury indicted Amir Riep, 21, and Jahsen Wint, 21, Friday on two counts each of rape and one count each of kidnapping. The charges are all first-degree felonies.

If convicted, they face a maximum of 33 years in prison and registration as sex offenders.

Riep and Wint are accused of forcing a 19-year-old woman who had been hanging out with Riep on Feb. 4 in an apartment on the Northwest Side into a sexual encounter.

According to court records, the woman and Riep had started to engage in a consensual sexual encounter, but she stopped, moved away and said she did not want to continue.

Wint then is accused of entering the room and grabbing the woman by the neck, forcing her to her hands and knees before raping her, court records said.

Riep held her in place by the hips and with his body, while Wint forced oral sex, according to court records. The woman pushed Wint away but he forced her to perform oral sex a second time, court records said.

Police and court records said Riep told the woman, after the encounter had ended, that she needed to say on a video recording that the encounter was consensual.

The woman was recorded asking Riep if he wanted her face to be in the video, as she was crying. "He told her no, just say it was consensual," court records said.

Police records show the woman reported the incident to police about three hours after it was alleged to have begun.

Both Riep and Wint have entered not guilty pleas to the charges against them and have been released on $100,000 and $75,000 bonds, respectively.

The two men, who were members of the Ohio State football team at the time of their arrest, were dismissed from the team by coach Ryan Day.

The men will be formally arraigned on their indictments on March 6.
