Former Ohio State DE Chase Young becomes highest 2020 NFL Draft pick to sign, inks rookie deal with Washington

You had a feeling it would take a while to hammer out the details of former Ohio State defensive end Chase Young’s contract if nothing more than the fact it was going to be a whopper. And yeah, it took some time, but the good news is that that’s now a done deal according to multiple reports — and likely earlier than anticipated.

As the No. 2 overall pick, Young was always going to command a lot of money because, well — that’s where the market is. He was graded by most analysts as the best overall talent in the draft, and teams and executives know they have to get the checkbook out and be ready to look the other way when they sign such a talent.

So it was, and so it is. According to Young himself, it’s a done deal now. He officially signed his rookie deal with the Washington (insert name) and ready to get to work.

The numbers are pretty eye-popping too, at least according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. How does a 4-year, $34.56 Million deal sound, with all of the nearly $22.7 Million signing bonus upfront?

Just for context, and by looking at last year’s comparable, Ohio State’s Nick Bosa (also the No. 2 overall pick), signed a 4-year deal worth $33.5 Million, with $22.4 Million of that coming as a signing bonus. So Youn’s deal is in the ballpark, but a little more.

That’s enough money to officially have arrived in the dreams-come-true world.

Young is the highest draft pick to sign from the 2020 draft so far because No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow is still trying to come to terms with the Bengals.
