Former Ohio State DB Kendall Sheffield reaches deal with Atlanta Falcons

Some of the draft picks are beginning to sign their names on the bottom line after all the brouhaha of being selected in the 2019 NFL Draft. Some of the top names will likely take longer as they work out their financial future with some rather significant money, but others are locking things in and getting ready for rookie camps.

Former Ohio State defensive back Kendall Sheffield is one of those players. According to a Tweet from the official Twitter feed of the Atlanta Falcons, he has inked a deal with the team Thursday.

It was a bit of a surprise to see the raw Sheffield go off the board in the fourth round, but the Falcons were obviously enamored by the upside of a guy with such blazing speed. He broke the OSU record in the 60-meter dash, and was ranked as the fastest player in college football for 2019 according to NFL.com.

The opportunity to see him run the 40 at the NFL Combine was ripped from us all because of a torn pectoral muscle suffered during the bench press portion of Sheffield’s workout, but there’s no doubt the Falcons are expecting immediate depth from the speedster.

Now that he’s signed, he’ll be ready to participate in the first rookie minicamp practice Friday.
