Former Ohio State commit Jaiden Woodbey leaving Florida State

Like a good fishing story, there are always a few that get away. That was the case in 2017 when the No. 4 ranked safety in the 2018 class de-committed from Ohio State in favor of Florida State. It was a blow to the second-ranked class in the nation and would’ve given the Buckeyes two top-ten safeties in the class.

Jaiden Woodbey is now back on the market after announcing that he will be leaving the Seminoles following the season as a graduate transfer. Woodbey will have one season of eligibility left after being a three-year starter for FSU. Woodbey was a Freshman All-American before losing most of his sophomore year to injury.

That begs the question of whether the Buckeyes would be interested in giving a former flame another shot at going to the prom again, this time in Scarlet and Gray colors. Would OSU look to bring Woodbey back in the fold in Columbus?

The biggest question is, would Ohio State be interested in possibly taking a chance on a guy who left them at the alter several years ago? You never know. Woodbey’s de-commitment came while Urban Meyer was at the helm. With Ryan Day in charge now, things may feel different on both sides.

One thing is for certain, with the Ohio State secondary struggling a tad in 2020, it won’t hurt to kick the tires and see where interest may lie. A grad transfer of this caliber would only strengthen an already impressing 2021 recruiting class for Buckeyes.
