Former Offaly hurler Paddy Molloy passes away

Former Offaly hurler Paddy Molloy has passed away.

The Drumcullen clubman, born in 1934, enjoyed a 16-year career with the faithful county and is regarded as one of the county's greatest ever hurlers.

Although beginning his career as a goalkeeper, he also starred in defence, midfield and in the forward line throughout his career.

He was the first player Offaly man to win a Railway Cup with Leinster in 1962, and he went on to win two more titles in '65 and '67.

On Wednesday night, his club Drumcullen tweeted: "It is with regret and a sad heart tonight we say goodbye to Offaly & Drumcullen greatest son Paddy Molloy.

"The whole club send our deepest sympathies to his wife Bernie, Sons Enda, John, Paul, Padraig & Darragh, Daughters Jackie & Anne. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
