A former off-shore worker has swapped his sails for dry land, opening a new deli in Shawlands.
Tapping into the new cafe-culture that seems to be enveloping the south side at present, Rob Gladden has poured heart and soul into the newly-opened No. 9 Deli on Minard Road.
The site specialises in 'no nonsense' grub, with Rob duly baking everything on site in the back kitchen - four months after he was supposed to open due to Covid, and nine months after he got the keys.
"This isn’t my background at all" said Rob. "I worked off-shore for years, and didn’t have anything to do with food.
"I bought this place just before Covid happened, and the sale was delayed. We got in in August. We were meant to be closed for four weeks, but ended up being closed for four months."

Pandemic problems aside, the deli is now up and running, open from 8AM every weekday and at 10AM on weekends.
They're serving up fresh sandwiches, salads, baguettes, soups, meats to order and of course, Rob's own home baked goods - think tablet, scones and empire biscuits.
And, like anywhere else in Shawlands, they're selling good coffee!
The MO is no fuss and frills, just consistently good fare - and it's working out so far.
“It’s what I’ve always wanted to do, I’ve always wanted to bake, and set something up that would be good for the area" said Rob.
"You can get sandwiches, soup, salads, home-baking - everything is homemade. We always have two soups on and loads of other wee things. We’ve been told it's the best lentil soup in Glasgow, but that’s subjective!
“I think everywhere is quite hipstery here, no offence to them, but we just want to make it simple. It’s a bit different to what is on offer in the south side. I do love it here thought."
