Former Oakland A's slugger Eric Chavez looks to sell in Rancho Santa Fe

Oct. 10--Retired baseball player-turned-TV sportscaster Eric Chavez has a home on the market in Rancho Santa Fe for $1.799 million.

Chavez, a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego, bought the house seven years ago for about $1.594 million, property record show.

Sited above a small lake in a gated community, the Mission-style home was built in 2008 and features such Old World details as cathedral-style ceilings with exposed beams, travertine and hardwood floors and wrought iron chandeliers.

Some 4,400 square feet on a single story includes formal living and dining rooms, a center-island kitchen, a great room, four bedrooms and five bathrooms. A detached guest house has a kitchenette, a living room and a private bath in about 900 square feet of space.

French doors off the great room open to a resort-style vanishing-edge swimming pool complete with a grotto, spa and waterfall. A built-in barbecue and a fire pit complete the setting.

Janet Rafalovich of RE/MAX Fine Homes is the listing agent.

Chavez, a third baseman, was drafted by Oakland in the first round of the 1996 amateur draft and played 17 seasons for the A's, Yankees and Diamondbacks, winning six Gold Glove awards. The 37-year-old retired in 2014 and currently works on the Oakland A's broadcast team for Comcast SportsNet California.
