Former Notts MP Gloria De Piero is latest signing for new TV channel GB News

A former MP has announced she is to join new TV channel GB News.

The former Labour MP and shadow justice minister Gloria De Piero will join the TV channel as it continues its preparations to launch this year.

The 48-year-old journalist, who spent represented Ashfield for nine years, will be joining the team hosting the weekday afternoon programme, it has been announced.

She is currently the host of the Gloria De Piero show on Times Radio.

She said in a statement: "‘My time as a constituency MP opened my eyes to the issues facing Britons today. I’m passionate about bringing their stories to life at GB News, making sure every community is heard and reflecting Britain as it really is through grassroots journalism."

Director of news and programming John McAndrew said: "Gloria deeply understands what matters to people across the United Kingdom and how we can serve them better through news and debate that is meaningful, relevant and reflects their values."

GB News, which is chaired by Andrew Neil, is set to begin broadcasting on Freeview channel 236 later this year.

Other hires include Kirsty Gallacher, Michelle Dewberry, Andrew Doyle, Inaya Folarin Iman, Liam Halligan, Tom Harwood, Rebecca Hutson, Darren McCaffrey and Alex Phillips.
