Former Notts County striker in limbo as coronavirus outbreak stops transfer

Former Notts County forward Filip Valencic has seen a move to the Belarusian Premier League put on hold because of the coronavirus crisis.

The striker, who played for the Magpies under Ricardo Moniz in 2016, had been set for a move to Shakhtyor Soligorsk who are currently sixth in the table.

But the move from his current club Stabæk had to be put on hold because of the current pandemic which has put the world in lockdown.

Valencic is now hoping to resume the move in the summer, but even then there are no guarantees.

“My agent was working to go elsewhere, but there were various complications, so the transfer was delayed,” he  told Ekipa24.

“Things were agreed only before the coronavirus outbreak in Europe.

“Then the airports and borders closed.

“Things that were happening are now at a standstill.

”Clubs have other problems and will  have until the situation calms down.

“Similarly, if something happens, it will probably in the summer.”

Valencic had an immensely successful spell at  Inter Turku where he scored scored 16 goals for the Finnish side last season.

He was the top scorer in the league and secured all the individual awards for a series of excellent performances.

Valenic, who represented Slovenia at under-21s level,  was also named the most valuable player in the league.

At Notts he scored one goal for the club which was a stunning effort in a win at Crawley.
