Former Notts County captain lands new club

Former Notts County captain Richard Duffy has joined Kidsgrove Athletic.

The Welshman signed for the Northern Premier League Division One South East on Wednesday, having appeared during their clash with Leek Town.

Duffy was released by Notts at the end of last season, following their relegation from the Football League.

Athletic boss Ryan Austin was thrilled to land the former Wales international, and feels his experience will be a huge benefit to his squad.

He said: "I'm really happy to bring Richard Duffy on board.

"He brings real quality to our squad as well as vast experience. We've been looking for a leader and, an organiser for a long time and, Rich fits that role perfectly.

"We have a young and exciting squad so to add experience to that was vital!

"I’m looking forward to working together."

Duffy's debut did not end with a victory that he would have hoped for as Kidsgrove lost 2-1 at Leek.

Kidsgrove are currently third from bottom, having failed to pick up any points from their opening games so far.

But they will be hoping Duffy can make an impact, having had a long career which saw him grace the Premier League with Portsmouth and win promotion with Port Vale.
