Former Notts County boss Shaun Derry returns to football with Premier League role

Former Notts County player and manager Shaun Derry has made his return to football with a role at Premier League Crystal Palace.

Derry, 41, made nearly 200 appearances for the Eagles during his 20-year playing career and will now return to the club as Professional Development Coach within the club’s Academy.

Last season, the Nottingham-born midfielder worked as Karl Robinson's number two at Oxford United, and even scored for the U's in a pre-season friendly fixtures.

But announced in April that he would step down at the end of the season.

His new role at Selhurst Park will see him working closely with the club's Under-18 and Under-23 players with Palace keen to increase the number of players graduating their academy.

During his time as manager at Meadow Lane , Derry oversaw 77 Magpies games, winning 26 of them.

And as a player he turned out for Notts on 93 occasions before leaving to join Sheffield United in 1997.

He returned to Nottingham seven years later with a brief loan spell at Forest, but only wore the Garibaldi eight times.
