Former Nottingham 'hidden gem' set to reopen as a chip shop

A restaurant which closed down more than a year ago is set to reopen - as a fish and chip shop.

Angelo's Chippery is the name of the new business which will be "opening soon" in the former home of Barrio, a quirky and rather anonymous Spanish tapas bar in Sherwood.

The much-loved intimate restaurant, which closed in January 2020, was always dubbed a hidden gem, even though it was on the main Mansfield Road, since it had no signage, website, phone number nor online menu - yet it never struggled for customers, even during the week.

The new chip shop will also be selling pizzas, kebabs and burgers.

The premises, which are getting a complete overhaul, is the latest business venture for Ozan Ozturk, who runs Ozan International Food Centre next door, and Mehmet Olku, who has run run Angelo’s Chippery in Bulwell for just over ten years and is co-owner of Angelo's Fish Bar in Nuthall.

Mr Ozturk said: "Sherwood will have totally different decor and layout from the others and any other standard chipper. It will be a top notch chippery.

"It will be mainly be take-out, but we will have seating for around six to ten inside. Things are moving slowly because of the coronavirus so it's hard to give a specific opening date."
