Former Nottingham Forest youngster subject of transfer 'bid' from Sheffield United

Former Nottingham Forest youngster Anel Ahmedhodzic could be set for a return to English football this summer.

Sheffield United are said to have made a bid for the Malmo defender. And fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers have also been linked.

Ahmedhodzic left the City Ground for Malmo in January 2019. He featured just once for the Reds’ first-team, when he came off the bench in a 3-1 Championship defeat at Newcastle United in December 2016.

Initially, he flourished in Sweden, developing into a key player for his side and attracting plenty of interest. So much so, a couple of years ago, Chelsea, AC Milan and PSV Eindhoven were all said to be keen on securing his services, amid talk of a 10m euros price tag on his head.

Ahmedhodzic has since had loan spells at Hobro and Bordeaux, spending the second half of last season at the latter. The French outfit reportedly have an exclusive right to buy the 23-year-old, providing they submit an offer in a previously-agreed timeframe - believed to be by the end of the month.

According to YorkshireLive, the Blades have made a seven-figure bid for the versatile centre-back. With Bordeaux yet to make their move, it is said United “are hoping to steal a march on other teams by registering their interest early so that they are in pole position when that deadline expires”.

Rovers may also be in the running, however. They are now managed by Ahmedhodzic’s former boss Jon Dahl Tomasson.
