Former Nottingham Forest winger Oliver Burke comes in for criticism at Celtic

Former Nottingham Forest winger Oliver Burke has been criticised for his performances at Celtic after they were beaten by arch rivals Rangers.

The Scottish champions lost 2-0 on Sunday, with fans unimpressed by the forward's efforts.

Former Celtic player Frank McAvennie also questioned Burke's commitment during the game.

Meanwhile, another ex-Celtic player has questioned if Burke, who is on loan from West Brom, has the the ability to succeed at Parkhead.

“I’m not sure to be honest (about signing him permanently), he first came in and scored a few goals, I’m not sure what his position is," Jackie McNamara told Football Insider.

“He’s a strong, powerful boy, I don’t think technically his first touch and all that’s there.

“He has got something obviously - a lot of teams have paid money for him.

'It's embarrassing' - Nottingham Forest fans enjoy Derby County's play-off defeat to Leeds

“But a team like Celtic when everybody is behind the ball at home in certain games, it’s very difficult for him to find space whereas if the game’s open, certain games maybe in Europe or when teams come to play Celtic, he’s a bit more suited to hit certain areas.

“I don’t think technically he’s going to link properly with the midfielders but if there’s something played through to him…again it’s what his right position is.

“I don’t see him as an out and out winger but I don’t see him as a number nine so you’re then creating a position for him.

“He’s definitely got something, like I said when he came in he scored a few goals at the start of February.”

Dwight Gayle's dive against Nottingham Forest proves extra costly for West Brom striker

Burke came through the Forest academy and was sold to RB Leipzig in 2016 soon after establishing himself for £13m.

He joined West Brom a year later for £15m, but has struggled to be become a regular, hence his move to Scotland.

The Scottish international has scored four goals in 18 games for Celtic.
