Former Nottingham Forest winger Jamie Ward finds next club with non-league move

Former Nottingham Forest forward Jamie Ward has joined Northern Premier League side Buxton.

The 35-year-old winger joins the third-tier non-league side after spending a year with Solihull Moors in the National League.

Ward scored three goals in 57 appearances at Forest after moving to the City Ground on a free transfer from arch-rivals Derby County.

The forward's move down the A52 came after he scored 34 goals in 138 games during a four-year spell with the Rams.

Forest were restricted by a transfer embargo at the time of Ward's arrival, meaning they could only sign players on a free transfer.

The forward contributed two goals in 31 Championship appearances in his first campaign on Trentside, adding five assists to his game too.

The following season, however, he struggled to establish himself under Philippe Montanier and joined Burton Albion on loan for the first half of the 2016/17 campaign.

Prior to his permanent departure from Forest in September 2019, Ward had loan spells at Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic.

Aged 34 he returned to his hometown of Birmingham in order to play for Solihull Moors in the National League.

Ward scored three times from 21 appearances in all competitions. His new challenge is now with Buxton in the Northern Premier League.
