Former Nottingham Forest transfer 'target' wanted by Arsenal

Daniel Podence could be set for a big money move to the Premier League in January, according to reports in Greece.

The Portugal international dubbed 'Superman' in the Greek press, joined Olympiacos last summer amid suggestions he had held talks with Nottingham Forest following his acrimonious exit from Sporting Lisbon, when the Reds were managed by Aitor Karanka.

Podence impressed for Olympiacos during their remarkable comeback in the Champions League against Tottenham last month, scoring a fine individual goal just before the interval - a performance which sparked interest among top flight outfits, including Arsenal, who are now said to have made contact with Reds’ Greek sister club.

Premier League scouts have been keen to watch the 23-year-old winger this season with a view to making a bid for the youngster, who gave Spurs a torrid time in Athens as the hosts fought back from 2-0 down to earn a deserved draw at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

According to Greek media outlet Sportime, Arsenal, who have scouts based in the country have scouted Podence on more than one occasion, along with a number of Spanish clubs including Sevilla.

It’s reported that owner Evangelos Marinakis, said to have a ‘strong rapport’ with Podence’s agent, Jorge Mendes, would be open to selling the ex-Lisbon star, though it wouldn’t be for anything less than £22m.
