Former Nottingham Forest striker lands first role as league manager with crisis club Bury

Former Nottingham Forest striker Paul Wilkinson has landed his first league role as a manager.

The 54-year-old, who made 43 league appearances for the Reds during a short spell in the late 1980s, signed a two-year contract with relegated Truro City just a fortnight ago.

But he has now been tempted to jump ship to join League One Bury in a role that ex-Forest number two Roy Keane was fleetingly linked with by the bookies.

Last season, as caretaker boss at Truro, the Treyew Road club were relegated from the National League South after full-time boss Leigh Robinson was axed in March.

Bury on the other hand were promoted as runners-up in League Two, despite seemingly endless off-field dramas that have seen them threatened with administration and even liquidation.

On Monday, the club were told that they would be evicted from their Carrington training ground by owners Manchester City, just two weeks on from the day a bid by tax officials to wind up the League One club was adjourned.

"Bury is a club with a great history," Wilkinson told the club's website.

"I can't wait to get started. I'm determined to drive the club forward in the right direction."
