Former Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings ready to switch allegiance from Scotland to Australia

Former Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings is ready to turn his back on Scotland and play for Australia.

Cummings, who joined League One side Shrewsbury Town at the start of the month, has played for Scotland in friendlies against the Netherlands and Hungary.

However, he is yet to play in a competitive game and could therefore still play for Australia, the country where his mother was born.

Cummings, who scored on his Shrewsbury debut, says he could play for Australia if Scotland manager Steve Clarke ignores him.

“I’d love to get back with Scotland — but if I’m not going to get called up, I need to take my opportunity elsewhere," the former Reds man told the Sun.

“My mum is Australian and I’ve already had talks with their assistant manager, Rene Meulensteen.

“I have spoken to him a lot along with manager Graham Arnold. I can play for them because my two Scotland games were friendlies.

“But I was born in Scotland and obviously that would be my first choice. I’ll make a decision in the next month or so.”
