Former Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy tipped to play key role for Bolton Wanderers

Former Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy has been identified as the man to fire Bolton to League One survival.

The 36-year-old rarely played a run of games for Forest, but Bolton's former manager Phil Parkinson says Murphy was the most important of their nine rapid-fire signings since being taken over.

"It's possible with the players they've brought in. Daryl Murphy is key," Parkinson said on the EFL on Quest show when asked if Bolton could stay up after starting the season on minus 12 points.

"Unfortunately he's got a bit of an injury at the moment, but he's a goalscorer who has scored goals at a higher level.

"If they can get him fit and playing week, week out then they've got a chance."

Former Republic of Ireland striker Murphy was joined at Bolton by Reds midfielder Liam Bridcutt, who has signed on loan until January.

Murphy missed out on his debut at the weekend, but Bridcutt played in the 6-1 defeat to Rotherham.
